The defendant was convicted of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, failing to report an accident, and driving without a licence or insurance.
Liability was subsequently admitted during civil proceedings. The parties reached an amicable settlement of the claim in favour of the claimant in excess of £30,000.
Our client's symptoms were principally psychological, and were significant enough for her to resign from her pre-accident employment.
She was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and cognitive behavioural therapy was recommended to treat her symptoms and ongoing travel anxiety. It was expected that with treatment our client's symptoms would improve considerably over a 12-month period, and no long-term psychological difficulties were envisaged.
