What did we do?
Our client suffered multiple severe injuries, including fractures to every limb, an amputation, head and facial injuries, leaving her with major legacies for the rest of her life.
Access Legal from Shoosmiths persuaded the insurers to accept liability, then assembled multiple expert evidence to formulate/present her claim, and in due course to secure an exceptional outcome in a case described by an experienced barrister as 'one of the most difficult' he had ever been involved in.
What happened?
Although the lady driver was in hospital, severely injured and undergoing an extended recovery, we began work straight away, working with family members, to bring the claim against the motorist responsible, who eventually conceded responsibility.
Visits to the client in hospital and at home helped provide invaluable information to support the claim, and gave the client the opportunity to understand progress first hand.
A team of expert witnesses was assembled to address every aspect of the consequences.
There was a major argument between some of the medical experts as to the long-term effects of some of the accident injuries.
Finally, it was possible to conclude the claim. In discussions with the insurers, they were persuaded to double their initial offer, to a level where we could recommend settlement to the client.
Who dealt with the case?
The claim was handled by Laurence Marshall, a partner and Head of the serious injury team at our Northampton office. With more than 20 years' experience in the area of personal injury, Laurence is recognised by lawyers and barristers alike as a true specialist in the area of catastrophic injury claims. He is on the Headway and Spinal Injury Association Panels of Solicitors, and is also a Law Society Personal Injury Panel member. He has been associated with local Headway Groups for many years.
Client testimonial
"I can only thank you again for being my daughter's solicitor, we couldn't have asked for a better one than you. Your help and concern was much appreciated over the bad months."
