What did we do?
Access Legal from Shoosmiths took over the case in 2005. Our client had sustained a severe brain injury and had very complex care requirements.
In order to bring our client's CICA application to a successful conclusion, Access Legal from Shoosmiths had to liaise with a vast array of care providers and medical experts. We ensured that he received the level of care he needed, and assessed his future needs to ascertain the shortfall, where these could not be met from public funds.
Background
Our client was the victim of an unprovoked assault, in 1995. He sustained a very severe brain injury, leaving him with speech and language problems, and serious mental health issues. He requires extensive care, both from professional carers and from family, and will never be able to return to work.
The award of £500,000 is the maximum payable by the CICA, and reflects the seriousness of our client's injuries, his loss of earnings, and the cost of ongoing care.
Who dealt with the case?

Barbara is a solicitor specialising in complex neurological injuries, including catastrophic head and spinal injuries. She is a Member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel, and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
