Asbestos has been used in many industries, including power stations, shipping and dockyards, and railway works.
However, it can take 25-40 years for a person to develop an asbestos related disease, such as mesothelioma, and the victim may become ill many years after the original exposure.
Action Mesothelioma Day is on 2 July 2010. It has three aims:
- highlight the plight of those suffering from the disease
- remember those who have lost their lives to it
- make people aware of the dangers of asbestos exposure
This year Asbestos Support West Midlands is hosting a ceremonial dove release in the grounds of St Philip's Cathedral, Colmore Row, Birmingham, at 3pm. After the event there will be a reception at the Council House, in Victoria Square.
