Free advice as woman tries to bring home murdered father's body
Associate Karen Shakespeare, a wills, family and wealth specialist, is advising Jessica Bolton as she attempts to raise £8,000 to repatriate her father's body, which is in the Philippines.
Fifty-year-old tourist James Bolton was among nine people allegedly shot dead during three robberies.
Access Legal from Shoosmiths' pro bono advice has covered the repatriation process, locating Mr Bolton's assets in the Philippines, and getting his £500 return flight cost refunded to help towards the £8,000 target.
Karen Shakespeare said: "This is a terribly tragic case, and it's awful to think that after what Miss Bolton has already been through, she may not be able to bring her father home.
"The money needed to repatriate the body has to be in place in the next two weeks, otherwise the body will simply be disposed of, in the Philippines. That just doesn't bear thinking about."
Miss Bolton said: "I'm very grateful for the free help and advice I've been given. This has been a traumatic time, but having someone to guide me through some of the red tape has lifted part of the burden.
"I just want to get my father's body back to the UK as soon as possible."
