New employees face greater injury risk
Published: 04:20PM BST 18 May 2011
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has said new employees face greater risk of injury during their first six months of employment.
It wants to ensure that employers and new employees consider reducing the risk of injury, and has published a Six Step Programme for employers.
The programme suggests assessment of new employees' ability to do a job, careful and easily understood induction, and training in the risks certain work may entail.
According to the HSE, extra steps will need to be taken to ensure young and migrant workers understand the training they are given.
