A trio of Access Legal from Shoosmiths runners will take part in the Great Midlands Fun Run to raise money for Asbestos Support West Midlands.

Sara Hunt, Kirsty Collins and Laura Battle will tackle the 5 June event, in Sutton Coldfield.

Asbestos Support West Midlands helps those suffering from asbestos related diseases, and campaigns for the strictest possible enforcement of regulations and legislation to protect workers and communities.

It also provides free and confidential help and advice via a telephone helpline, website, newsletters and bulletins, and through home visits or office appointments.

Thousands of people die each year from asbestos related illnesses and asbestos is still the biggest work-related cause of death in the UK. From the time of exposure, diseases can take between 15 and 40 years to develop.

Partner and asbestos specialist Sara Hunt said: "Asbestos Support West Midlands provides vital advice and support to the victims of asbestos illness, and their families. I feel privileged to be raising funds for it."

"People are mistaken if they think asbestos is a danger from the past. With asbestos believed to remain in 500,000 UK buildings, the work done by the support group in highlighting the terrible dangers it still poses is critical if asbestos illness is ever to become a disease of the past."

Access Legal from Shoosmiths will match the amount raised by team.
