Silver Cross renews pushchair safety notice
Published: 10:17AM BST 28 Jan 2011
Pushchair manufacturer Silver Cross has renewed a safety notice it first issued in April 2010, following reports about continuing problems with one of its products.
A newspaper article headlined Anger as danger buggies recalled tells of how a child caught her little finger in a pushchair mechanism and suffered an injury that required the amputation of the top of her finger.
The safety notice relates to three batches of Silver Cross Halo pushchairs – numbers 150209, 150409 and 150509 – manufactured and sold in 2009. It seems that a premature wearing part can cause injury in certain circumstances.
Those with Halo pushchairs from the affected batch and who've not had it repaired or replaced should contact Silver Cross customer service teams on 0845 8726900 to arrange corrective action.
When an individual suffers an injury caused by a defective product they can pursue making a claim against the producer of the product.
To help avoid injury and ensure only safe products are placed on the market, manufacturers are required to issue safety and/or product recall notices when they become aware of problems with the products they make.
This in part may account for the recent growing number of recall notices issued by car manufacturers: only today (27 January) it's been reported that Toyota has issued another recall notice, this time concerning potential problems with fuel systems on some of its cars.
Toyota says there have been there have been no accidents or related defects caused by the problem, unlike the 'fuel spillage' issue that affected the old three door Austin Mini Metro, and which was the cause of a number of accidents in the 1980s, resulting in successful litigation against Austin Rover, in which I was involved.
