Debt management advice
Debts need to be tackled head on and fast if you're to stop them spiralling out of control.
When giving debt management advice, we'll ask whether your agreement was clearly explained? Are you paying extortionate interest? Did you know some debt is not enforceable? Some agencies will add to your debt by purporting to help, but simply add to your problems. We'll give you sound, proactive advice.
Why use Access Legal from Shoosmiths?
Our team is highly experienced in providing practical and logical debt management advice without adding to your debt level. It's done in a professional and compassionate manner, and we'll try to relieve the pressure. Our initial advice is free, to help set you on the right path.
Important things to consider
Debt management needs to be looked at on an individual basis to ensure the right solution for you. Try to avoid debt consolidation companies who will charge you to deal with your issue and therefore increase what you owe.
What do I do next?
- have a list of your income and outgoings complete
- prioritise your outgoings, so mortgage / rent first, with luxuries last on the list
- make sure you have all paperwork to hand so we can check if these are enforceable
- if the claim against you is under £5,000 it may be cost effective to use the Small Claims Court, as no additional fees other than limited fixed costs can be added
- always call if the debt is more than £5,000
- we can look at whether the debt is enforceable, and if not we have a range of options that won't increase the amount you owe and may reduce the debt
If the debt is enforceable we can refer you to reputable non-charging services that can help by putting the interest on hold, and preparing repayment plans.
